From 1825 to 1875, sheep farming flourished in the Trièves – in particular to compensate for the failing textile industry. This boom then diminished, and sheep farming once again became a secondary activity, accompanying agricultural life – in summer, ewes grazed mainly around farms, the high pastures of the Trièves being reserved for transhumant livestock from Provence (Crau, Camargue). Caprine breeding was highly developed between 1860 and 1914, supplying skins to the glove-making industry in Grenoble. Source : Le Trièves, Etude Géographique
