Historic information
During the 19th century, the road link (1828) between the Col du Fau and the Col de la Croix-Haute, and the opening of the “Des Alpes” train line (1878), enabled Monestier de Clermont to open up. A livestock fair was organized, bringing together farmers and traders from the upper and lower parts of the Trièves. In the early 20th century, tourism began to develop, attracted by Monestier-de-Clermont’s mineral water, which was used for thermal cures.
