History
Le Sappey (now Le Sappey-en-Chartreuse), a commune located at an altitude of between 850 and 1,200m, hosted the first regional Alpine skiing competition in 1907. The area is renowned for its exceptional snow cover at medium altitudes, particularly at the Col de Porte – which holds the record for snow cover in Isère and has been recording snow activity since 1960. These favorable climatic conditions naturally led to the development of skiing, both as a means of travel and as a leisure activity.
